Amazon.co.uk Review
Camp Rock is a Disney Channel original movie about a rockin' teen summer camp that's highly appealing to tweenies and young teens despite the movie's failure to favourably compare with truly great Disney Channel movies like High School Musical. Joe Jonas (of the Jonas Brothers stars as Shane Gray, a member of the rock band Connect 3, who is compelled to serve as an instructor at Camp Rock in order to counteract his increasingly negative public image. Tess Tyler (Meaghan Jette Martin) is the camp diva whose self-absorption defies description, Caitlyn (Alyson Stoner) is a past Tess groupie who's now ostracised from the popular kids at camp, and Mitchie (Demi Lovato) is a camp newcomer whose mother is the camp cook. Caitlyn initially befriends Mitchie, but the friendship wanes when Mitchie makes up an elaborate story about her family to get accepted into Tess's exclusive clique. As Mitchie struggles to maintain her façade around camp, Shane begins to reform his bad-boy ways and find his own personal voice and he and Mitchie become friends--unfortunately, their new relationship is based partially on Mitchie's lies. In the end, Mitchie's deception is exposed as is Tess' true villainy and the perfect summer camp experience threatens to turn into the worst summer ever for everyone involved. Camp Rock is infused with lots of energy, fun choreography, and a ton of good, if not particularly memorable, music. Add in the cast of generally unlikable characters with extreme characteristics whose changes of heart at the end of the film are not particularly believable, and Disney's got an entertaining film for tweenies and teens that adults might just as well skip. --Tami Horiuchi

Synopsis
Teen pop idols the Jonas Brothers make their feature debut in Disney's CAMP ROCK, a Cinderella tale with a rock 'n' roll twist. Golden-voiced, working-class beauty Mitchie Torres (Demi Lovato) has only one desire: to spend the summer at Camp Rock, a prestigious musical retreat for budding stars. The wish is granted when her mom gets a job as the camp's cook, but in order to join the ranks of the popular girls, she must obscure her less-than-regal roots. As the summer wears on, Mitchie is torn between who she is and who she's pretending to be, an artistic crisis of identity that endears her to the similarly-conflicted boy band superstar, Shane Gray (Joe Jonas). United by the desire to sing from the heart, Mitchie and Shane help one another discover their true selves, and together pave an honest road to pop success.

For The Tweens With HSM Withdrawl Symptoms, Here's A New Franchise To Obsess Over4
'Camp Rock' is what I would describe as a good substitute for the finished series of the 'High School Musical' films.
It ticks all the typical Disney movie boxes; shy, unpopular leading lady, hot crush (Joe Jonas), nasty blonde rich girl & a good ol' moral at the end.
'Camp Rock' is better than 'High School Musical 2' but not better than 1 & 3. I don't think there's a mere chance of any Disney musical having a hit bigger than 'Breaking Free' but 'Camp Rock' does have a few catchy tunes, the best being 'This Is Me' sung by Demi Lovato & Joe Jonas.
Ah, the Jonas Brothers. Three pop-rock virgins with a loyal tween fan base, teamed with Disney, a match made in heaven. The middle Jonas (Joe)has the most air time, the other two aren't really in the film for longer than three & a half minutes.
The stoy is about Mitchie, a 'normal' girl, who constantly smiles & she has a talent for songwriting & singing & is soon thrust into the all-singing all dancing world of 'Camp Rock'. Then there's Shane part of a band named Connect Three (real life band Jonas Brothers).
Everything is happy & merry until Mitchie becomes part of the 'popular clique'.
'Camp Rock' is good for its target audience, it IS a Disney movie afterall, so there are going to be the inevitable conveniences & morals that heve been touched upon many a film before. But the film is sweet & innocent, the underlying message is be yourself. On a more sour note, the other two unintentional messages are to get famous- be a singer, whatever. It seems the kids watching films like this & the 'HSM' moives are all being lead to believe that in order to truly be someone they have to dance, or sing (mainly both). The other message is avoid skinny blonde girls like the bubonic plague, Disney has been waging war on Blondes since Walt Disney was alive (Sharpay, Tess Tyler).
In conclusion it succeeds in creaing a film adequate for the target audience, so for all those tweens out there with 'HSM' withdrawl symptoms, this is the perfect substitute, a new leading man to drool over (Joe Jonas) & a new burgeoning pop-sensation to aspire to (Demi Lovato).

Well I Absolutley HATED high school musical the entire film just irritates me. But i have to admit , the signing in this movie was actually really good and the songs were pretty catchy. The storyline wasnt particually original but it was still worth watching. I'd recommend renting this movie or watchig it on disney channel before you buy it though.
